Channel Your Inner Olympian

With the excitement of the Olympics under way, it’s the perfect time to draw inspiration from the world’s top athletes.  Personally, I am in awe and have been finding myself pondering their dedication, resilience, and mindsets.

What can women like us learn (or remember) from these incredible athletes?

  1. Vision and Goal Setting: Olympians spend years visualizing their success and setting clear, incremental goals. Reflect on your long-term vision and break it down into actionable steps.
  2. Self-Talk and Mental Health: Positive self-talk and tending to mental health are essential for a successful, thriving, life and business. Practice affirmations and focusing on your strengths.
  3. Commitment and Discipline: Just as athletes commit to rigorous training, dedicate yourself to consistent, disciplined actions. What’s a step you can take today in the direction of your dreams?
  4. Community and Support Systems: Athletes rely on coaches and teammates for support. Surround yourself with a supportive community of women in real estate who encourage and uplift you.
  5. Adaptability and Evolution: Athletes continuously adapt their strategies to improve performance. Stay open to learning and evolving in response to market changes and your own personal evolution.

During the 2016 Olympics, Simone Biles said “I’m not the next Usain Bolt or Michael Phelps. I am the first Simone Biles.” in response to the many comparisons commentators were making between her and  other legendary male Olympic athletes.

I saw that quote a few days ago and it reminded me of something I see a lot in working with agents, and that is: comparison.

Maybe you aspire to be like another agent in your brokerage, on your team, or someone you follow on Instagram.

Admiration and inspiration can be life-giving, moving us forward. And sometimes, that admiration shifts. It shifts to copying, imitation and being inauthentic. When it gets to that point, expect to feel off, drained and even burnt out. Trying to be someone other than yourself simply isn’t sustainable.

Allow this to be your reminder:

You are the first you.

You are the only you.

Only you can do business your way.

Staying true to you is not only an excellent business strategy, it is an excellent strategy for personal peace and confidence too.
