NAVIGATING NAR SETTLEMENT PRACTICE CHANGES

By now, I imagine you’ve talked about the upcoming NAR settlement practice changes, maybe even to a point of nauseam. If your conversations have been anything like mine, you are noticing a wide range of reactions, opinions and plans to move forward.

I’m not here to tell you how to proceed from a tactical and technical manner. That’s not my area of expertise and I’d be stepping outside of my lane.

Rather, today, I’d like to remind you of your influence and leadership as we all navigate the changes that come with the NAR settlement.

Here’s a handful of ways you can navigate these changes and view them as opportunities to influence and lead the way:

  1. Understand the Changes: Familiarize yourself with the new regulations and how they affect your systems, processes, team members and clients.
  2. Embrace Adaptability: If we don’t bend, we break. Stay flexible and open-minded.  Some deep breaths and shoulder rolls help.
  3. Lead by Example: Guide your clients and peers through the transition with professionalism, integrity, humility, grace and collaboration.
  4. Communicate Clearly: Transparency builds trust. Your clients, fellow agents and industry vendors will appreciate your thoughtfulness.
  5. Seek Support: Connect with other women in real estate to share strategies and support each other through this transition. We are better together.

BE THE CHANGE

In my work with agents, we regularly talk about being aware of how they are “being” (as opposed to what they are “doing”).  We talk about how our “being” enters the conversation well before we open our mouths and say a word. That we radiate our “being” outward and can greatly influence the “temperature” of the rooms we are in.

As you move about these changes and begin to implement them into your practice, I encourage you to regularly check in with yourself. Here are 5 questions to consider:

  1. Am I approaching these changes with a positive and open mindset?
  2. How can I demonstrate leadership and calm during this transition?
  3. Am I communicating effectively and transparently with my clients and colleagues?
  4. How am I supporting myself and others emotionally through these changes?
  5. What opportunities for growth and innovation can I identify and pursue in this new landscape?

Remember, challenges are often disguised opportunities. By leading the way, you can set a positive example and inspire others to do the same.
