With the end of the year approaching, the focus often shifts to goal setting and planning. But amidst the excitement, it’s easy to feel stuck or unsure about what comes next. You’ve set a vision for your future—so how do you turn that into a plan of action?
Over the years, I’ve worked with many real estate professionals to bridge the gap between dreaming and doing. The truth is, a plan is only as strong as the steps you take to execute it. That’s why in Part 2 of my series, Succeed on Purpose, I’m sharing the practical strategies to help you create your plan. It’s proven, simple and actionable. When you follow the process, you’ll end up with a simple plan that includes a meaningful goal, a few key priorities, and tactics that lead directly to the results you want to create.
Part 2 | Creating The Plan
Step 1: Determine the Goal
Your vision of your life is going to cost you. The question is, how much? Review your vision and get a clear understanding of what you’ll need to earn to bring your vision into reality. Then, do some quick math and break that down into your production goal. You get to decide, it is units or volume.
Step 2: Identify Three Key Priorities
Once your goal is set, break it down into three main priorities. These are the pillars of your plan—the areas that will drive your success. Think of them as the non-negotiables you need to focus on to hit your goal.
Keep it simple. Do you have the relationships or not? If you do, then the priority is to nurture. If you do not, then the priority is to build. You’ll need both, however which is most important? Your third pillar could be related to systems, people, technology or even education/mastery and for some, you may want to consider putting personal habits such as exercise, meditation or even date nights.
Step 3: Pair the Pillars with Actionable Tactics
Tactics are the day-to-day actions that bring your plan to life. The key here is to keep it simple and sustainable.
For each priority, identify three to five habits or activities you can commit to regularly. These must be authentic to you and be something you WILL do. Resist the temptation of “fill in the blank” and do your best to make the tactic measurable. Such as:
- Hold 4 open houses each week.
- Have 5 conversations with past clients and SOI each day.
- Send a weekly email to database.
Balance Work and Life
A sustainable business plan doesn’t ignore your personal life. Your time and energy are finite, and your plan should reflect that. Be intentional about incorporating personal priorities—family time, self-care, or hobbies—into your plan – especially if you know you may tend to sacrifice them if it isn’t in writing.
Success doesn’t just happen—it’s built with purpose, one step at a time.
