Lessons From The Golf Course

OMG I made a personal best!  At what?!  Golf!  I took up golf in 2020 and started getting more serious and dedicated to improving my game in 2022.  About a month weeks ago, I shot a 102 (for those of you who don’t know, the lower the score the better) and a couple weeks ago, I set an intention to break 100.

I started strong and was really encouraged. Made a couple mistakes and thought maybe my goal wouldn’t be met that round and I stopped paying attention to the score.  I just kept playing, enjoying myself, having fun and still being smart with my game.  The round went from goal achievement to practice.

After getting my stuff packed in the car and sitting down for a post round drinky drink…my partner and I did the math – 97! Whaaaat!??!

So why does this matter?!  Well first, I think it’s important to share our wins and so I am practicing that here.  But also, it’s relevant to everything I teach.

Oh hey, I’m Heather Patterson! I coach and train entrepreneurs and their teams – helping them grow their businesses by growing their belief and confidence in themselves and each other.   I mix the mystycal “woo woo” stuff with the methodical – strategy and action side of things too.

I’m so glad you’re here!

Okay…so like I was saying, my golf story – yeah…it has EVERYTHING to do with the way I teach.  Lemme show you:

  • Set a goal / intention
  • Begin
  • Be willing to be bad
  • Get Better
  • Get Closer
  • Take one step at a time
  • Relax and let go of the outcome
  • Celebrate!
  • Rinse and repeat!

This applies to my golf game, and also, to nearly everything you are pursuing.  Maybe’s it going your business; being a more effective leader, nuturing your relationships – romantically or otherwise, fitness, nutrition, spirituality.

Fun fact, I recently watched the Netflix series “Full Swing” that covered the 2022 PGA Season.  I learned that a PGA player can win ONLY 10% of time and be considered an Elite Golfer. Wow! I was amazed to learn that, it really had me check myself with my relationship to “failure” and “persistance”

When it comes to your goals, how do these concepts apply to you?

Have you set the intention? Have you started?

Are you practicing?  Like, really?

Have a coach!? (I know one! LOL)

Are you taking it one step at a time?

Are you relaxed?

And have you celebrated?!

Give those questions some honest thought and make the necessary adjustments.
