Do something today that your future self will thank you for. – Unknown
Scrolling the socials the last couple of weeks, I noticed a “new” trend. New? Or not so new. It seems this one comes up every few years or so.
The “10 Year Challenge”. If you haven’t seen it, allow me to quickly explain.
- Go to your photos.
- Find one from 10 years ago. 2012.
- Next, find another photo, from now. 2022.
- Open your social media account and post each one, 2012 and 2022.
- Add #10yearchallenge and your choice if you want to additional commentary.
That’s it. That’s the ten year challenge.
Admittedly, the vain side of me went digging. Hmmm, where to find a photo that is 10 years old anyway. Facebook of course. Has Facebook really become my archive? Somewhat, but that’s not what we’re here to talk about.
Here’s my version:
You can imagine, there were some notices. Yes, I look younger there. My hair is dark like I’ve been wearing it lately – it’s my “winter look”. One was taken in Hawaii and the other taken in Arizona. But the real notices come when I sit with the images for awhile.
What’s the difference, really?
When I look closely, and really consider the change that has occurred, far more has changed on the inside than has changed on the outside.
More: responsibility, courage, gratitude, love, happiness, belief, confidence, peace, commitment, truth, leadership, fun, adventure and connection
Less: worry, doubt, fear, anger, resentment, wavering, second guessing, indecision, people-pleasing, controlling and judgement
I’m proud of who I’ve become over the last 10 years.
What about you? When you complete your own 10 year challenge (posted to the socials or not) can you acknowledge how far you come?
Having these reflection points are important. To see your personal progress. To celebrate all that you have overcome. To remember what you have achieved in such a short, relatively speaking, amount of time.
An added benefit of looking back is the “connecting the dots”, the hindsight to see how and why what you experienced was necessary to get you wherever you are today.
Let’s not get stuck there. Wading in the pool of progress made will breed complacency.
The truth is, we are either in growth or decay.
What if the 10 year challenge looked different?
What if, instead, we posted who we wanted to be, what we wanted to see and experience of ourselves 10 years from now?
What would that picture look like? Would there be drastic changes? Or something more subtle? New backgrounds? New foregrounds? Pops of color? Muted areas?
What is it that you really want? And not just 10 years from now. What about tomorrow? Or 10 days from now? 10 weeks or months.
As a Mindset Coach, the answers to these questions are the focal point of my conversations. Where a person has been is far less important to me than where they want to go, who they want to be and what they want to experience.
My hope is that you will take these questions just as seriously.
Whatever it is that you want, and I really mean that, WHATEVER – you want, you can have it. There is a proven process to getting there, a process that stands the test of time. Guiding people thru this process is my work and this is your invitation to explore it.
NOW is the time for you.
