What Are Goals and Why They Matter:
Before we get into the nitty-gritty of goal setting, let’s first understand what goals are and why they are essential for personal and professional growth. The Three Types of Goals:
Now, let’s explore the three types of goals and how they differ from one another.
There were taught to me by one of my mentors, Bob Proctor:
- A – Already Done: These aren’t goals at all; they’re plans to repeat something you’ve done before.
- B – Believe You Can Do: Closer to a goal, but you might be repeating with more effort or intensity for a different or bigger result.
- C – Colossal: These are the game-changers, the goals that push you beyond your comfort zone and into uncharted territory.
The Questions to Ask Yourself:
To set effective goals, it’s crucial to ask yourself the right questions. Here’s a handy bullet list to guide you through the process:
- What do you want? Get a crystal-clear picture in your mind and visualize it.
- Why do you want it? Remember, your desire is enough of a reason.
- How will you know when you’ve achieved it?
- By when will you achieve it?
- What might need to be preserved or protected while pursuing this goal? (e.g., balancing work and personal life)
- Does the desired outcome align with your current identity?
- Has someone else achieved this goal before? Is there a proven model or process?
- What aspects of the goal are within your control?
- Who can help you along the way? Identify your support system.
- How will you measure your progress? Consider setting milestones.
- What’s your accountability style? Respond well to rewards or consequences?
- Are you ready to adopt a “whatever it takes” mentality? Persistence is key.

Developing Your Action Plan:
